When To Select a Wig

If you’re facing the prospect of hair loss during chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment, our boutique is somewhere you can explore options in a friendly, welcoming and private location. We have lived with hair loss for many years so we understand those emotions. We aim to ensure your wig or hairpiece restores confidence and provides a sense of control over hair loss during treatment. This can be important at a time when many things are not within our control. Loosing your hair can feel like loosing part of who you are, it’s often not ‘just hair’ to us, it’s the person we see in the mirror every day. It is often our sense of self.

Finding the Most Comfortable Cap

We also aim to make sure it remains comfortable to wear. In our experience monofilament wigs are often found to be the most comfortable during chemotherapy by our clients. There are also a range of grips and liners in a range of materials should your scalp become sensitive during chemotherapy. It isn’t just a case of us showing your 2 or 3 wigs when you visit us. We have lots on display and to try on.

Colour Match Your Hair Before Hair Loss Occurs

We go through all the fibres and caps with you during consultations. Choosing a wig before hair loss begins allows you to match the style and colour to your own hair. This means you can get used to wearing it. In addition, you can be prepared if hair loss occurs sooner than expected. Consultations are available both in person and online by appointment. You can also find out information about navigating loss of your eyelashes and eyebrows here.

Sometimes, simply having a style and wig prepared can give us back a sense of control over the hair loss. From personal experience, when we feel tired or drained for any reason, even after an operation or in times of stress, just getting ready, putting makeup on and doing your hair can make you feel more like you again. We supply quality wigs and leading brands in the North East. Our location is convenient, as we are between Durham, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Sunderland.

They have changed my life

In the Words of One of Our Wonderful Customers…

I ‘m currently having chemotherapy after being diagnosed with breast cancer in March this year.  Although I was warned hair loss could be a side effect of the treatment, I was devastated when this actually happened.

This was especially as I was really happy with my hair at that time.  I think dealing with and accepting a cancer diagnosis is extremely difficult. Furthermore, for a woman to also lose her hair is really hard. This is especially so when you are also facing losing all or part of your breast.

How Beech Grove Wig Boutique Can Help

We know that losing hair can be an emotional experience, especially during an already challenging time like during treatment for cancer. Many of our clients share how they instantly feel more at ease when they arrive. Their worries about visiting a wig shop fade away because of the comforting location, the inviting setting, and knowing they’re speaking with someone who truly understands hair loss and the importance of feeling like yourself. As a result, we’re here to guide you through the best options to help you achieve that.

We love our grounds and gardens and our countryside location. This makes our customer’s experience unique –  we love sharing the setting and making consultations as relaxed and enjoyable as possible.  Green is all around – even our boutique is filled with palms, bougainvillea and plants.  It is lovely to see the location providing such a positive and welcoming environment for clients and their family and friends. It is also great to see a group sat laughing, sharing opinions on styles, drinking coffee and forgetting for the time they are here, other worries. Moreover, to see others completely at ease and enjoying the experience of finding a new style is a pleasure. It means looking good and feeling better, to use the words of an organisation listed below.

As we are not in a busy shopping area or salon – you have the place to yourself virtually. This means any worries about a higher risk of picking up viruses in busy areas during your treatment are minimised.

What’s more, because we are a family business, we are always on hand and will schedule appointments for times that suit you.  You may find you are more tired after a treatment than expected, so we are always on hand to reschedule.  We also offer virtual consultations if you are unable to visit us in person.  We can do home visits, however, there is a fee to cover costs in this instance.  Please feel free to call us or email to find out more information on this.

Our virtual and in person consultations (at our boutique)  are free and there is no pressure to buy. Yes, we are a business but our motivation and sense of fulfilment comes from a much more personal place than this.  Our customers represent ourselves – we have been customers for many years ourselves.

Our customer reviews on Google and Yell tell of the positive experiences of our clients navigating wigs and cancer treatment. Whether you are situated in Newcastle Upon Tyne or anywhere in the North East, we are here. It is a privilege to be part of your journey.

Macmillan Cancer Support – Wigs and Cancer Treatment

A charity dedicated to supporting everyone with cancer helps them live life as fully as possible by offering physical, financial, and emotional assistance. They provide guides and resources to help people through this challenging time. Macmillan Cancer Support offers guidance on cancer-related hair loss.

Bring Along Loved Ones

Macmillan suggests that It may be a good idea to bring a family member or friend with you when you are choosing a wig, as this means they can give an honest opinion about what suits you. You may want to try a different colour or style. Sometimes, it is surprising when we try on wigs to find that there are more colours than we first thought that really suit us.

We welcome and encourage friends and family to accompany you on your in person or online consultation.  There is always tea or coffee on hand and you will never feel rushed. We have lots of  space to sit and chat both indoors and outdoors. Hopefully, the sun will shine for us on your visit! In the winter time there is a different kind of magic provided by the setting!
