Different Wigs Styles and Fibres Advice

Short Pixie Wig Styles

Pixie style wig

We offer a wide variety of pixie styles. These range from modern edgy styles, to Audrey Hepburn like classics. They come in a vast range of colours and with many options regarding base construction and fibres.  The beauty of these natural wig styles  in synthetic fibre is that they suffer less from friction frizz from contact with clothing than longer styles. This can affect longevity. Often our clients start off with a synthetic option. Once they are sure they will wear them in the long term, they invest in human hair wigs.

At a pixie length, synthetic options offer the most ease for styling. A case of shake and go in the morning. However, even with human hair wigs, once styled, the style should keep until the next wash. This is due to the fact that we don’t sleep with our wigs on, unlike if we had bio hair. With bio hair there is bed hair in the morning!

Many of our clients have discovered that even when they have bio hair at this length, nothing compares to the ease of maintenance and styling of wigs. The fortnightly cost of trips to hairdressers for a wash and blow dry are gone. Really, the styles are so chic and effortless.

Short Bob Wigs

With the same advantages as short pixie wig styles, this length of wig has the advantage of slightly more length. You can start to get some of those popular waves and curls.  Choose synthetic if you just need a straight, wavy, or curly style that will be easy maintenance. It retains its style.  Go for heat friendly if you would like to go between curly and straight. You can use heat at a lower price point than human hair. Lastly, go for human hair for versatility, natural movement, and feel.

Step 1

Sometimes when new to wigs, we describe it as a series of steps. Step 1 is going for a synthetic wig. If you are unsure whether you are going to wear a wig or are unsure about style or colour, the price point of these wigs is ideal.

Step 2

Step 2 might be getting the same one or a different one to switch between if wearing every day. The initial one becomes your everyday and the second one, your good one. As time goes on your good one will become your everyday one and so on.

Step 3

Step 3 might be the eureka moment when you realise the benefits of wigs and are confident in wearing them. You might then try different styles and colours than your own style or bio hair.

Step 4

Step 4 is when you want something that is going to feel like bio hair. You can get it cut into a style that you like. It is when you are ready to invest in a human hair one. Often, when we get to step 4, the human hair one will be ‘us’. We will wear it every day. It will feel and move like bio hair. We might get low lights put into it. We view it in the same way as we do our bio hair.

Step 5

Step 5 is when we have our human hair everyday wig. We continue to use glamourous synthetic styles for special occasions and nights out. We will have the confidence to wear and carry these. We then appreciate the transformation they create.

In Conclusion

All that being said, sometimes if you know you want a wig, you know you will wear it every day. If you know exactly what style and colour you want, some people go immediately to step 4. This can be more cost-effective in the long run given the longevity of human hair wigs and the advantages.

Shoulder Length Bob Wig Styles

We are beginning to venture into longer styles with this length. Ordinary synthetic will experience friction frizz as it touches your clothes over time.    Heat friendly wigs need heat, which can tame the frizz and remedy this to quite an extent.  With human hair, you have the natural movement and feel. You have the option of styling. Although we personally have worn this length and wig daily for almost a year in the past, it was an absolute delight to swap back to human hair in terms of maintenance.

Having said this, the colours in the range photographed are beautiful. They don’t fade as much as human hair does during the summer months. On the other hand, you can always dye human hair darker or add low lights, providing a qualified wig stylist is doing this. There are always pros and cons between the different fibres.

Mid Length Wig Styles

Synthetic longer wig styles are great for instant elegance for special occasions. When worn every day, they will be affected by friction frizz. Thus, their life span is generally estimated at 2-3 months  (dependent on maintenance),  compared to 4-6 months for short synthetic styles (depending on care and maintenance). Heat friendly synthetic wigs, at this length, can remove the frizz to an extent with heat tools.

If you want this length for everyday use, human hair wigs are an extremely worthwhile investment. Personally, it would be human hair we would choose at this length. We have ‘been and done’ the other fibres at this length, and we don’t miss the maintenance if wearing daily! However, it didn’t bother us at the time. It was just part of maintenance. When we switched back to human hair, we reflected on the time it took and appreciated our human hair wig all the more!  The wig above is human hair. It has been curled, measuring a few inches longer when straight.

Again, if you factor in the time you would spend maintaining a synthetic wig at this length, the number of wigs you would buy over the year and the feel of human hair in comparison, human hair can be cost-effective.

Long Wig Styles

Just like mid-length styles, long styles in synthetic fibres can be affected by friction frizz. This impacts life span in comparison to short styles.  They are great for special occasions and offer an instantly styled look.  Available in a vast array of colours.  Heat friendly styles require maintenance and heat to help combat frizz. They must be combed with a wide-tooth comb regularly to prevent tangling and damage to the fibres.  Human hair wigs act just like bio hair.  Many people who wear wigs every day might opt for a long human hair for their main usage. They may choose a long synthetic one for events.

Once You Grow in Confidence and Embrace Wigs…

Wig colours

Many people switch between the different lengths and indeed colours depending on the season and activities.  For example, they may have a short one for summer and for shopping etc in synthetic.

They may have a longer synthetic one for nights out and events. Or a human hair one for every day.  The shorter synthetic wigs come in a great variety of styles and colours at reasonable price points.

The human hair wigs, though more expensive, are an investment. They are great for people who wear wigs everyday.  The heat-friendly wigs are in between these two in terms of price. They offer some of the features from both.

Many people go lighter in colour for the summer months. They opt for warmer, darker tones for the autumn and summer months.  If you love synthetic with its ease of maintenance and find your favourite style, a lot of people purchase two: one for every day which takes the majority of the wear and tear, and one for special events or nights out in the same style or a similar style.

This then becomes their everyday one when the other is at the end of its lifespan, and so on.
