Human Hair Wigs Across Durham And The North East
Each manufacturer will have different guidelines on life span and care. Always follow the manufacturers guidelines regarding wig shampoos and wig accessories. Generally with daily wear, from reputable brands such as those supplied on this site, human hair wigs may last for 6 to 12 months. This depends on care and frequency of wear. If you take it off when at home, rotate wear between other wigs, this could be considerably longer. Be wary of companies offering cheaply priced women’s wigs. They will not be of good quality and will matt within a few washes. The old adage if it looks too good to be true…

Advice
Be gentle with your human hair wig and you will have it for much longer. That could be an extra few months or a year, depending on you! The main issues I have found have come when I have brushed them too roughly during blow drying at the beginning of my journey. I find the mellowing of colour, or the oxidisation as it is called, adds to the natural highlights on brown wigs over time. Don’t sleep in women’s wigs, and if you swim, use an old wig. I discovered an old Supplex wig was amazing for swimming under water. A few bits of tape applied to the base and conditioner to the hair helped greatly.
There is so much info to pass on that it really does help to speak to people who wear these pieces. I can’t imagine buying one online for a first purchase! We have wonderful hairdressers who you can book when you buy your wig from us. We advise you to take your wig home first. Get used to wearing it, see how it moves, and always always when getting it cut, do the minimum. You can always go back later and have some more cut off. However, remember it won’t grow back!
Also, remember when getting it cut, just like bio hair, the hairdresser will follow your instructions. So on your head it rests if you don’t like the result. Otherwise, no hairdresser would ever cut a wig, if you pardon the pun. Slowly, slowly when having them cut. This comes from personal experience over many years. Fringes—go longer and thinner than you think you want. Always have it dried to see if it bounces up just like bio hair before adding more. We will give you more tips when you purchase from us, from tips for updos to tips for tools to use. We have made all the mistakes prior to setting up our business over many years, so can help you avoid common pitfalls.
Synthetic Wigs

Synthetic Wigs
Each manufacturer of women’s wigs will have different guidelines on life span again. Always follow the manufacturers guidelines. Generally with daily wear, from reputable brands such as those supplied on this site, synthetic wigs may last for 3 to 6 months when worn daily, dependent on care. If you take it off when at home, rotate wear between other wigs, this could be considerably longer.
An important thing you must look out for is putting your head anywhere near oven doors or sources of heat. This is important as the fibre will be damaged. I remember years ago visiting a wig shop which had a huge old fashioned heater above the entrance door. It blasted your old hair on the way in and your new hair on the way out. I could never work out whether they just didn’t know, as they themselves didn’t wear wigs, or it was a sales ploy!
Please, please do not sleep in your wig as it will frizz prematurely! If you feel comfortable wearing a wig to bed, utilise an old one. Again be aware of very cheap price points on these. The photos may look fine but the bases and construction when they are delivered will not be the same as those from leading brands. The old adage if it looks too good to be true again.

Synthetic Care and Maintenance
- Every 7-10 days, as part of your wig maintenance routine if worn daily, start with a gentle brush. Use a wire wig brush starting from the tips and not pulling so hard the fibres are damaged. Remove all knots and tangles.
- Rinse and shampoo with the correct wig shampoo for your hairpiece. Use lukewarm or cold water. In the case of shorter pieces, you submerge as per your wig instruction leaflet. With longer pieces, you place under running water. Never agitate the fibres.
- You can lather a small amount of shampoo on your fingertips and gently put along the hairline if there is any makeup residue. Then rinse.
- Condition—using fingers smooth a small amount of the correct product for your piece through mid-lengths and ends. Avoid the base.
- Wrap in a towel and dab – don’t rub!
- Gently brush while wig is supported from mid lengths to ends.
- Apply leave in product approved by manufacturer if you wish.
- Airdry.
- Shake and go.

Advice
Be gentle with your synthetic wig and you will have it for much longer. Do not pull at the fibres on wigs to prevent them from snapping or stretching. I personally would not swim in a synthetic wig, unless it was an old one, as the chlorine can affect the colour and fibres. Use an old human hair wig for swimming if possible.
Gently brush out tangles at the end of each wear, especially around the nape area, as part of your daily wig maintenance routine. You can also use products and wig accessories recommended by us to reduce tangling. Shorter styles tend to last longer due to friction from clothes. This is the main culprit in creating frizz.
Again, there is so much info to pass on that it really does help to speak to people who wear these pieces. Having attended supplier training, as well as having worn these pieces in real life, we can guide you in finding the perfect piece for your needs and lifestyle.

High Heat Fibre Wigs

High Heat Wigs
Each manufacturer of women’s wigs will have different guidelines on the different fibres. They also have different names for these types of fibres. On this page, you will find an overview of Tru2Life fibres. Your wig will have specific guidelines attached upon purchase. Other high heat fibres vary in their care, and we will go over this during appointments. Generally with daily wear, from reputable brands such as those supplied by us, these wigs may last for 3 to 6 months when worn daily. Again, this is dependent on care. Longer styles may have a shorter life span. If you take it off when at home, rotate wear between other wigs, this could be considerably longer.
- Take special care with lace front wigs and hairpieces. The lace is delicate and should not be tugged or pulled.
- Sudden bursts of heat, such as opening an oven door, may damage heat-friendly synthetic fibre.
- We do not recommend sleeping, showering, or swimming while wearing.
- For longer wig styles, comb through nape area often using your fingers or a wide-tooth comb.
- Hair colour cannot be used on synthetic fibre.
