In the Words of One of Our Wonderful Customers…

I ‘m currently having chemotherapy after being diagnosed with breast cancer in March this year.  Although I was warned hair loss could be a side effect of the treatment, I was devastated when this actually happened, especially as I was really happy with my hair at that time.  I’ve always had fine, shortish hair so I was thrilled that it was longer and thicker than I’d ever had it.  I think dealing with and accepting a cancer diagnosis is extremely difficult but for a woman to also lose her hair is really hard when you are also facing losing all or part of your breast.

As part of your treatment you’re given a voucher from the NHS towards the cost of a wig and a list of wig suppliers. The one I used was based in a hair salon which felt odd given I was going through hair loss.  I was given brochures to look through and asked basic questions about colour, style and length and they ordered what they thought would be suitable for me.  The wig is ok however…

after meeting with Anna, I am now the proud owner of a wig which I actually love and has given me more confidence about myself and makes me feel more “me”. Anna has so much knowledge as she wears a wig herself and she gave me lots of advice and tips about wearing and maintaining wigs.  I loved that she didn’t rush me and allowed me to try on lots of different styles.  She also measured my head so I got a wig which actually fits my small head!  Not only that, she totally understood what I wanted from my wig as I work in a school and helped me find one that is lightweight and comfortable. After meeting Anna and hearing about her experience wearing wigs, I feel much more positive about how I will manage with hair loss in the future now and I know there are wigs that exist that make me feel amazing.  I’ve recommended her to my aunt who is also undergoing cancer treatment and a family member who has alopecia.

Wigs During Cancer Treatment Newcastle Upon Tyne, Durham, Sunderland.

When To Select a Wig

If you’re facing the prospect of hair loss during chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment, we aim to ensure your wig or hairpiece restores confidence, provides a sense of control during treatment, and remains comfortable to wear. Monofilament wigs are often the most comfortable during chemotherapy by our clients. Choosing a wig before hair loss begins allows you to match the style and color to your own hair, get used to wearing it, and be prepared if hair loss occurs sooner than expected. Consultations are available both in person and online by appointment.

Sometimes simply having a style and wig prepared can give us back a sense of control over the hair loss. From personal experience when we feel tired or drained for any reason whether after an operation or in times of stress, just getting ready, putting makeup on and doing your hair can make you feel more like you again. We supply quality wigs and leading brands in the North East, conveniently located between Durham, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Sunderland.

How Beech Grove Wig Boutique Can Help

We know that losing hair can be an emotional experience, especially during an already challenging time like cancer treatment. Many of our clients share how they instantly feel more at ease when they arrive, with their worries about visiting a wig shop fading away because of the comforting location, the inviting setting, and knowing they’re speaking with someone who truly understands hair loss and the importance of feeling like yourself. We’re here to guide you through the best options to help you achieve that.

We love our grounds and gardens and our countryside location and this makes our customer’s experience unique –  we love sharing the setting and making consultations as relaxed and enjoyable as possible.  Green is all around – even our boutique is filled with palms, bougainvillea and plants.  The house itself is 200 years old and as well as being the home to the boutique it is our family farmhouse.  It is lovely to see the building providing such a positive environment for clients and their family and friends, to see a group sat laughing, sharing opinions on styles, drinking coffee and forgetting for the time they are here, other worries. To see others completely at ease and enjoying the experience of finding a new style, looking good and feeling better to use the words of an organisation listed below.

As we are not in a busy shopping area or salon – you have the place to yourself virtually, any worries about a higher risk of picking up viruses in busy areas during your treatment are minimised.

What’s more, because we are a family business, we are always on hand and will schedule appointments for times that suit you.  You may find you are more tired after a treatment than expected, we are always on hand to reschedule.  We also offer virtual consultations if you are unable to visit us in person.  We can do home visits however there is a fee to cover costs in this instance.  Please feel free to call us or email to find out more information on this.

Our virtual and in person consultations (at our boutique)  are free and there is no pressure to buy – yes we are a business but our motivation and sense of fulfilment comes from a much more personal place than this.  Our customers represent ourselves – we have been customers for many years ourselves. Our customer reviews on Google and Yell tell of the positive experiences of our clients navigating wigs and cancer treatment, whether you are situated in Newcastle Upon Tyne or anywhere in the North East, we are here and it is a privilege to be part of your journey.
