How to Make a Wig Look Natural

Fibres

In both human and synthetic fibres, wigs and toppers look much more natural when not brushed into complete uniformity. Often, synthetic pieces which are perfectly brushed and flattened can look less real. This is especially true compared to those with a little bit of natural messiness and volume.

Style

Many people who wear wigs every day like to have a fringe as often the hair line is the part that can make a wig look ‘wiggy’. For some, even with the most exquisite lace front, up close the join can be seen. Fringes blur those edges.

Cap Construction

Cap construction can have a lot to do with how natural a wig looks. Hand tied pieces move in a more natural way than wefted pieces and often are less bulky. Monofilament tops give the illusion of scalp underneath and allow you to change your parting. Lace fronts give a more realistic hair line.

Human vs Synthetic

When brand new, apart from by touching them, it is sometimes hard for people to tell the difference in synthetic and human fibres. However, as these are worn, the difference between them in terms of movement and colour in the outdoor light and appearance becomes discernible. Human hair will get wet through in the rain. When the wind catches it, it will more than likely behave like bio hair. In contrast, synthetic may stay more readily in the wind blown position. Synthetic fibres deteriorate with friction frizz but human hair is just like bio hair. It may have greasy days or dry days but give it a nice condition and wash and treat it gently and it will be lovely again.

Customisation

Having a wig customised by cutting (in moderation and by a professional) or wearing it in different styles more to your own unique style can make a big difference in how natural wigs and toppers look.

Colour

Colours and choosing a colour that compliments your complexion helps too. Often when people have bio hair they are always trying to get rid of their roots. However, when we wear wigs roots on blonde wigs can look more natural.
