Hair toppers and enhancers are becoming everyday fashion accessories for many women, providing additional length or volume to their hair. They can also be particularly beneficial for conditions like Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia (FFA), which leads to scarring and affects the hairline and sideburns. They are also helpful for those with Telogen Effluvium, a condition where an increased number of hair follicles enter the resting phase, often triggered by stress or significant life events, and is typically temporary, resolving within 6-9 months. For Androgenic Alopecia, which involves follicle miniaturization and hair thinning, enhancers offer a valuable solution. Besides, they serve to boost volume, extend length, conceal roots, or provide fuller coverage for a thinning crown. Human hair toppers are favoured for their natural movement and feel, and we also offer synthetic and heat-friendly options.
Advantages of human hair toppers and enhancers are their heat tolerance, ability to be coloured, soft texture, and versatile styling options. Disadvantages include colour fading over time, higher cost, and for some, they are more challenging to manage than synthetic hair, they behave just like bio hair. Regardless of your choice, our convenient location ensures we're always within reach for those in Newcastle upon Tyne, Sunderland, and Durham. Synthetic hair boasts colour consistency, a permanent wave, no styling necessity, ease of maintenance, affordability, and a wide range of colours. However, it is prone to friction frizz, cannot be coloured or dyed, and heat application is not possible unless it is heat-friendly. The model wears a different colour topper to her bio hair so we can see what is her bio hair and what is the topper.
Our boutique in County Durham offers a range of hair enhancers and toppers, catering to various stages of hair loss, available in diverse sizes and cap styles. Upon your visit, we first determine the stage of hair loss or your specific needs for volume or root concealment. If hair loss is present, we enquire if it has stabilised before proceeding to measure the affected area and examine clip placement, which is crucial as attaching clips to unstable hair can be harmful. Next, we explore different fibres, from natural human hair to synthetic options, helping you find your preferred choice and using colour rings to closely match your hair colour. Our commitment extends beyond selling wigs; we empathise with our customers' emotions and queries, having experienced them firsthand. Ultimately, our satisfaction comes from guiding others on their journey, regardless of a sale.
Our customers often find there is a limited range of size, length and colour of ready made toppers and pieces and so when hair loss is not only at the crown and of a size available ready made, they feel their only option is a full wig. Recently we attended customising toppers and hairpieces training hosted by the well respected and established Aderans brand. This enables us to adapt wigs into hairpieces unique to each individual client's needs and allows a vast range of colours and sizes then to come into the equation. We also supply custom made pieces though in effect when we adapt a wig this becomes a custom made piece and is a shorter process than creating a new template and piece. For example, many of our clients require a topper to cover a receding hairline. Most pieces available on line will not cover the side areas and only cover the top, therefore it is often still a case of disguising these areas with hair from the top of the head and our clients would still be left with limited styling options. By creating a piece which runs ear to ear and is attached at the top in the same way as a traditional topper, these challenges are overcome.
Starting this business posed a real dilemma regarding this question for me. Having experienced hair loss myself, I understand that hair can become stressed, leading to traction alopecia due to attachments or constant pulling. When providing a topper with clips, I ensure it's attached to strong hair and advise customers to rest their hair or rotate the clips. Initially, I decided against supplying integrated systems, and my experiences with customers who have had experience of these systems has affirmed this choice. Integrated systems require frequent maintenance to prevent hair damage and keep the scalp healthy, which can be expensive. In the same way as wearing the same clothes for 4-6 weeks might not be the best for your skin and may produce issues, personally I have never considered having one of these applied. Some people feel more comfortable however with something integrated. Most importantly for me however is the fact that I would never want to contribute to someone's hair loss. Noticing fashion trends in America, there's a move towards wigs and pieces over extensions and integrated systems, which seems healthier for hair follicles. I expect this trend to take hold in the UK as wigs and hairpieces become fashion statements. They offer versatility, akin to changing a favourite outfit, and non-integrated wigs and pieces make this easy. There's also a shift from clips to halo wires. Considering extensions often reveal joins and wefts, and so become very obvious, wigs and clip-on pieces seem a logical choice.
