As someone who has worn wigs for over 40 years due to Alopecia, I have probably tried lots of options of colours, fibres and base constructions over the years. I have made lots of discoveries and mistakes. There is a place for the different fibres in our busy lives. However, for myself, wearing anything of a length which is going to be touching my shoulders and for everyday wear, human hair is my preference.
The Advantages of Human Hair Wigs and Toppers
Sometimes when I am part of my client’s journeys, I sometimes think we have to do the other fibres first to really ‘get’ the difference and ease of these pieces. They are a more expensive option initially. However, if you wear alternative hair every day they can be less expensive in the long run than synthetic fibres. There is the important caveat of this depending on care.
With human hair, they can be shaped and styled to your desire. Whether like myself you prefer a fringe and a little bit of a wave or if alternatively you prefer straight. The same wig is pictured above straight out of the box and after a cut, wear and styling in my everyday life.
I don’t profess to be a model and am embracing the wrinkles and lines of passing 50 with the attitude of enjoying the number I have today as next year I will have more! You can have low lights added as they benefit from a freshening up after summer months in the blonde colours.
Quality Human Hair Wigs and Hairpieces
Not all human hair wigs are the same and you really do get what you pay for with these. Remy hair is my preference, having experimented with cheaper versions in my younger years and been horrified when they have gone into one big tatt after the first wash. I have learned from my journey. We supply the brands which are well known in the UK. Dimples and Aderans have been around longer than I have and are known for their quality. I have used both brands throughout my life as a customer.

Care and maintenance are key with human hair. This can be the difference between them lasting 6 months or 2 years depending on wear and care. Again we share our learning during our consultations. This is just as important as choosing a wig.
There are situations in life when synthetic are super. For example, if my preference was for a pixie style, synthetics are gorgeous and the friction frizz issue which you have with longer synthetic pieces is reduced. In addition, holidays in hot and humid countries – synthetic doesn’t react like human hair.
Often people may have a sister synthetic or heat friendly synthetic wig similar to their every day human hair one for special occasions.
People often find a human hair style and colour they like and then go down the custom made route with us so the cap fits perfectly to their head shape. This can be a lengthier process initially as it is hand made but once the first template has been approved and then made, next time the process is quicker.
For clients on their first wig or topper who may not know if wearing one is the way forward for them, synthetics are a good way to test the water. Also, for those who love to swap and change colour and style, synthetics are a less expensive way of doing this.
